In 2025, General Motors (GM) is set to roll out the Chevrolet Equinox PLUS plug-in hybrid SUV in the Chinese market. This model is a perfect fit for the demands of the U.S. market as well, yet it hasn't made its way across the Pacific. The underlying reason is that GM is fully committed to a complete electrification strategy in the U.S. market and is intentionally steering clear of hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. GM's CEO, Mary Barra, highlighted a key issue: the majority of plug-in hybrid owners don't charge their vehicles regularly. As a result, the actual fuel consumption during day-to-day driving often far exceeds the official labeled figures. Given this scenario, GM is proceeding with caution when it comes to deploying hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies.
