Volvo has initiated a recall of its electric SUV, the EX30, across several overseas markets. The recall stems from potential safety hazards associated with the batteries installed in certain batches of these vehicles. The battery cells in question were manufactured by Shandong Geely Sunwoda Power Battery Co., Ltd., a collaborative venture between Geely and Sunwoda.

Previously, at the end of 2025, Veris Electric, a subsidiary under Geely's umbrella, filed a lawsuit against Sunwoda Power, demanding a staggering 2.314 billion yuan in compensation. The lawsuit alleges that the battery cells supplied by Sunwoda Power were of substandard quality, a claim that may be intricately linked to prior battery issues encountered by Zeekr, another entity within Geely's portfolio.

The relationship between Geely and Sunwoda began to sour from 2024 to 2025. This legal battle has dealt a severe blow to Sunwoda, potentially rendering its efforts over the past two years futile. It has not only impeded its listing process but also tarnished its reputation and resulted in a loss of orders. As of now, the matter remains unresolved, and the industry continues to be embroiled in controversy over this issue.
