The year 2026 marks the inaugural year of China's "15th Five-Year Plan", offering substantial development prospects for the intelligent connected new energy vehicle (ICV-NEV) sector. On January 13th, the 2026 Annual Working Conference of the Inter-Ministerial Joint Conference on the Development of Energy-Saving and New Energy Vehicle Industries convened in Beijing. The meeting was presided over by Li Lecheng, the Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

During the conference, the work accomplishments of 2025 and the entire "14th Five-Year Plan" period were reviewed. It was noted that all objectives set during the "14th Five-Year Plan" were not only met but exceeded, with a notable surge in the market size of new energy vehicles in China. Additionally, China's export volume of these vehicles soared to the top globally.

The conference underscored that in 2026, the emphasis would be on fostering high-quality development within the industry. This includes formulating the "15th Five-Year Plan" for the Development of the Intelligent Connected New Energy Vehicle Industry, bolstering the autonomous and controllable capabilities of the industrial and supply chains, expanding the automotive consumer market, regulating the industry's competitive landscape, and reinforcing international cooperation and support mechanisms. In total, 23 member units and responsible comrades from pertinent departments of the MIIT participated in the conference.
