Mercedes-Benz announced that it will pause the further deployment of the Drive Pilot Level 3 autonomous driving function in Europe and the United States. When the new generation facelifted S-Class goes on sale later this month, it will no longer be equipped with this 'hands-free and eyes-free' conditional autonomous driving system. Launched in 2023 alongside the EQS electric sedan and the gasoline-powered S-Class, Drive Pilot is one of the world's first L3 autonomous driving systems available to the general public. In congested highway scenarios, the system allows drivers to take their eyes off the road at speeds of approximately 40 miles per hour and engage in entertainment activities on the central control screen, representing a significant upgrade over traditional L2 'assisted driving'.
