Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to introduce a sweeping overhaul for its 2026 S-Class sedan, with more than half of the car's components being either newly developed or significantly revised. The revamped model will showcase a completely redesigned exterior, state-of-the-art interior tech, and a substantially improved MB.OS operating system. When it comes to performance, the plug-in hybrid S580e will pack a combined output of 577 horsepower. The outgoing M176 V8 engine will make way for the new M177 unit, which sports a flat-plane crank design. This change boosts the maximum power to 530 horsepower and could potentially reduce the S580's 0-100 km/h acceleration time. Initially, the new engine will find its place under the hoods of the S580 (Mild Hybrid) and Maybach S580. Moreover, there's anticipation that the AMG S63 will also get a performance boost, as its prototype has already embarked on its final round of road testing.
