This month, the comprehensive implementation of the new national standard for electric bicycles has brought about a significant transformation within the industry, with sales outlets feeling the most direct impact. Phoenix Technology conducted visits to several stores and discovered that many had already cleared out their stock of vehicles conforming to the old national standard, while the availability of models meeting the new national standard remained limited. Some stores have even ground to a halt. The new national standard came into full force on December 1st, prohibiting the sale of all vehicles adhering to the old standard. The new standards introduce more stringent requirements concerning fire safety, tamper-proof design, and other facets, spurring upgrades throughout the entire industry supply chain.
Influenced by factors such as escalating costs and inadequate supply, prices for models complying with the new national standard have generally risen, prompting many consumers to adopt a wait-and-see approach. Major companies are leveraging their technological know-how and financial clout to expedite their transformation, whereas small and medium-sized enterprises are confronting the threat of being phased out.
