On December 23, the Traffic Management Bureau under the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau formally presented the inaugural batch of special license plates for L3-level autonomous vehicles on highways to three intelligent connected vehicles. This event marks China's first-ever issuance of such plates, signifying a pivotal shift from the testing and demonstration phase to mass production for autonomous vehicles in the country. This development heralds the dawn of the L3-level autonomous driving era and stands as a momentous milestone in the automotive intelligence revolution. Presently, the 'conditional autonomous driving' feature is exclusively operational on specific segments of the Beijing-Taipei Expressway within Beijing (ranging from Jiugongxin Bridge in Daxing District to the Airport North Line Expressway), the Airport North Line Expressway (extending from Daqu South Bridge to the Daxing Airport Expressway), and the Daxing Airport Expressway (spanning from the South Sixth Ring Road to the Airport North Line Expressway). The system will automatically deactivate the function on any other roads or regions.
