California's regulatory authorities have launched an investigation into the temporary halt of Waymo's self-driving taxi service, which is owned by Google, in select areas of San Francisco. On Saturday evening, local time, a fire broke out at a Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) substation, triggering a widespread power outage that impacted roughly one-third of San Francisco. This outage affected approximately 130,000 residents and resulted in the closure of numerous businesses. Due to the inability of Waymo's self-driving taxis to interpret non-operational traffic signals, they came to a standstill at intersections. This led to significant traffic disruptions and congestion, ultimately necessitating the suspension of the service.
