The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has unveiled seven compulsory national standards (drafts pending approval), among which is the "Safety Technical Requirements for Automobile Door Handles." According to these standards, each vehicle door (excluding the tailgate) is required to be fitted with an externally mounted door handle that can be manually released. Even when the vehicle is equipped with an electronically controlled or automatically activated locking mechanism, it must still guarantee that the door can be manually opened in the event of an accident while in a locked state. The new regulations are slated for implementation on January 1, 2027, with a transitional period established: new models seeking type approval must fully comply with all requirements starting from July 1, 2027, whereas models that have already received approval must undergo rectification and meet the standards by July 1, 2028. The primary objective of these new regulations is to facilitate accident rescue operations. They prohibit the use of fully hidden exterior door handles, mandate that exterior door handles offer a hand-operable space of no less than 60mm×20mm×25mm in any condition, and outline specific requirements for the mechanical release function and installation position of interior door handles.
