In December 2025, U.S. Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi introduced a bill aimed at gradually eliminating the use of Chinese LiDAR sensors in autonomous vehicles and critical infrastructure. The proposed legislation raises concerns that these sensors could be vulnerable to space-based cyberattacks during conflicts, which might lead to the paralysis of vital U.S. systems.

According to the bill, there will be a prohibition on the purchase of new equipment containing Chinese LiDAR sensors after a three-year period. Additionally, a five-year transition period is stipulated for the phasing out of existing devices used in critical infrastructure. However, exemptions are granted for research purposes and other non-critical applications.

At present, Chinese LiDAR companies dominate the market, holding a 93% share of the global passenger vehicle market and an 89% share of the overall LiDAR market.
