Recently, a blogger observed a trend among Tesla owners: a significant number prefer to utilize mobile navigation apps over the vehicle's built-in navigation system. Auto blogger Chen Zhen attributes this preference mainly to the fact that many Tesla owners have not subscribed to the paid entertainment data package, which costs 9.9 yuan per month. Without this subscription, they are unable to access features such as online music, video streaming, and real-time traffic updates on the in-car map, compelling them to resort to their smartphones for navigation.
Furthermore, while Tesla's navigation system employs data from Baidu Map, the route planning algorithms are developed independently by Tesla. This independence sometimes results in delayed updates of real-time traffic information or suboptimal route suggestions, which can detract from the overall user experience. In contrast, mobile navigation apps are known for their rapid updates and precise real-time traffic information. They can swiftly respond to unexpected situations like traffic jams and accidents within minutes, making them a preferred choice among Tesla owners.
