On November 26, amidst rumors claiming that "Tesla is mandating suppliers to eliminate Chinese components from their North American manufacturing processes," Tao Lin, Tesla's Global Vice President, took to social media to set the record straight. She emphasized that Tesla's criteria for selecting suppliers are consistent across all its global production facilities. These criteria hinge on factors such as quality, overall cost, technological maturity, and the ability to ensure long - term supply stability. The country of origin or geographical location of a supplier is not a criterion for exclusion.
She further disclosed that for the Model 3 and Model Y vehicles produced at Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory, the localization rate of components has surpassed 95%. Tesla has forged partnerships with over 400 domestic Chinese supply chain partners, and more than 60 of these partners have been integrated into Tesla's global procurement network.
