On November 25, Pony.ai, a Chinese autonomous driving technology firm, unveiled its ambitious plan to expand its global Robotaxi fleet by more than threefold, reaching over 3,000 vehicles by the end of 2026. Presently, Pony.ai operates a fleet of 961 self-driving taxis, 667 of which belong to the seventh-generation models. In its latest financial report for the third quarter, the company outlined its objective to grow the fleet to 1,000 vehicles by the close of 2025.
Pony.ai's seventh-generation Robotaxi has already embarked on fully driverless commercial operations in major Chinese cities including Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. Notably, it has achieved positive profitability on a per-vehicle basis in Guangzhou, with an impressive average daily order volume of 23 orders per vehicle. The company emphasized that by adopting an asset-light strategy, it will expedite the large-scale deployment of its fleet. Moreover, it anticipates a further decline in the production costs of seventh-generation Robotaxis by 2026.
