On November 20, data released by the German Federal Statistical Office revealed that, impacted by widespread layoffs, the employment figures in Germany's automotive industry had seen a significant decline. By the end of the third quarter of 2025, employment in this sector had dropped by 48,700 compared to the same period in the previous year, marking a 6.3% decrease. Overall industry employment plummeted to 721,400, reaching its lowest point since 2011. The data further indicated that automotive industry suppliers had borne the brunt of the layoffs far more severely than complete vehicle manufacturers. As of the end of the third quarter, the complete vehicle manufacturing sector in Germany employed 446,800 workers, reflecting a 3.8% year-on-year decrease. In contrast, among suppliers, the body and trailer manufacturing sector saw its workforce shrink to approximately 39,200, a 4.0% drop from the previous year. Meanwhile, the auto parts sector experienced an even steeper decline, with employment numbers falling to around 235,400, an 11.1% decrease year-on-year.
