On November 20, 2025, WeRide made an exciting announcement: its autonomous taxi, the Robotaxi, has officially been awarded a full autonomy license by the Swiss Federal Roads Office. This license permits the Robotaxi to operate without human intervention on public roads within Zurich’s Furttal area, marking a historic milestone as the first fully autonomous Robotaxi license ever issued in Switzerland.
The WeRide Robotaxi will take its place as a key participant in Switzerland’s “iamo” intelligent automated mobility pilot project. Spearheaded by the Swiss Public Transport Lab, this initiative is dedicated to exploring how autonomous vehicles can be seamlessly integrated into the country’s public transportation network. Looking ahead, WeRide has outlined its plans to launch a fully autonomous Robotaxi service to the general public in the first half of 2026, contingent upon fulfilling all relevant regulatory requirements. Additionally, the company intends to progressively introduce autonomous minibusses, ultimately creating a diverse and integrated autonomous fleet.
