Amazon's autonomous driving subsidiary, Zoox, has expanded its driverless taxi service to the general public in San Francisco. Previously, this service was exclusively available to employees, along with their relatives and friends. These specially designed vehicles, devoid of steering wheels or pedals, have been navigating the streets of San Francisco for nearly a year.
Zoox is now reaching out to users on its waiting list, inviting them to participate in the early passenger program. As part of this initiative, Zoox will offer complimentary rides. The company has set an ambitious goal to completely clear the waiting list by 2026. At present, Zoox boasts a fleet of approximately 50 driverless taxis operating in both Las Vegas and San Francisco. The service areas currently encompass select neighborhoods in San Francisco, although the coverage is relatively more limited when compared to that of Waymo.
