On the 13th (local time), a statement was released on the official website of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, announcing that Tesla is set to recall 10,500 Powerwall 2 energy storage products across the United States, citing potential fire hazards. On the same day, Tesla's stock price experienced a significant decline, closing down by 6.64%. According to the commission, the recalled battery-powered systems are prone to malfunctioning and overheating, thereby elevating the risk of burns or even fatalities among individuals nearby. Prior to this recall, Tesla had already received 22 reports regarding overheating issues with the Powerwall 2. Among these reports, 6 involved instances of smoking, while 5 reported actual fires. Although these incidents resulted in minor property damage, fortunately, no personal injuries were reported. Tesla attributed the root cause of the recall to a defect in a third-party battery component but refrained from disclosing the identity of the supplier.
