After enduring years of setbacks and engaging in several rounds of crowdfunding, Aptera has now commenced the assembly of verification vehicles on specialized fixtures. This marks a pivotal shift from the prototype development stage to the engineering verification phase. The verification assembly line being established serves as a precursor to a small-scale production line at the company's Southern California factory. This production line is designed with efficiency in mind, utilizing large, high-precision assembly tools to guarantee accuracy and consistency in the assembly process. Moreover, it simplifies traceability and facilitates prompt problem resolution. The co-CEO of Aptera hailed this as a major milestone for the project. Nevertheless, the exact date for the market launch of Aptera's three-wheeled electric vehicle remains in the air, as the company is still in the process of securing $65 million in funding to commence small-scale production. Originally slated for production in 2021, the vehicle's powertrain has undergone several iterations. The launch edition comes with a price tag of $40,000 and boasts a full-charge range of up to 400 miles. The battery, sourced from LG Energy Solution, is compatible with the NACS charging interface. Additionally, the vehicle features an integrated solar cell array on its body, which can provide up to 40 miles worth of energy replenishment daily, theoretically allowing some users to travel without ever needing to plug in.
