On November 4th, as part of the preparations for the large-scale production of L4-level autonomous vehicles slated for next year, XPENG Motors revitalized its Robotaxi project at the end of October and commenced internal staff repositioning. According to insiders close to the project, XPENG Motors attaches significant importance to this initiative, even going to the extent of recruiting experts from well-known L4-level autonomous driving companies at substantial costs. XPENG Motors favors a "lean operation" strategy, prioritizing return on investment over extensive capital outlays. Another well-informed source revealed that XPENG Motors has deviated from its initial plan to create an entirely new Robotaxi model. Instead, it now plans to conduct trial operations using vehicles currently in development, with a gradual transition to commercial operations. The project employs two distinct SUV models: one for trial runs and another for full-fledged commercialization. High-end models are initially being used for testing purposes. The company's investment is predominantly channeled towards software algorithm talent, given the high reusability of hardware components. Currently, the AIinfra (AI Infrastructure) department boasts a team of nearly 20 professionals.
