On October 9, 2025, news broke that the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched multiple probes into Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system. The investigations are centered on traffic safety regulation breaches by Tesla vehicles operating in FSD mode. These violations encompass running red lights and driving in the wrong direction on public roads. It's estimated that a staggering 2.9 million vehicles are implicated.

Back in June 2025, during Tesla's public testing of the Robotaxi in Austin, a host of problems surfaced. The vehicle was caught speeding, making sudden and jarring brakes, and even entering the wrong lane. These incidents have sparked widespread concerns regarding the safety of Tesla's autonomous driving technology. In response, the NHTSA has stepped in to conduct in-depth investigations. It has demanded that Tesla furnish more detailed information and has hinted at the possibility of taking further regulatory measures.
