As reported by CCTV News, the Guangzhou Internet Court has recently made public a defamation case concerning a self-media (independent media) enterprise. In August 2024, a marketing company posted an article on its official WeChat account, alleging that a tech company's autonomous driving products would "deprive 2 million individuals of their jobs" and "leave vulnerable groups with no hope for survival." The article further accused the tech company of being "devoid of conscience and morality."

This article was disseminated across more than ten online platforms simultaneously, such as Weibo, Zhihu, and Toutiao, drawing widespread attention. Subsequently, the tech company initiated legal proceedings, contending that the article had tarnished its reputation. The court determined that the article was devoid of factual support, employed hyperbolic and incendiary language, and ventured beyond the realm of reasonable critique, thereby infringing upon the tech company's reputation. Consequently, the court mandated that the marketing company issue a public apology and provide 5,000 yuan in compensation to the tech company.
