On September 19, WeRide made an announcement: its autonomous minibus, the Robobus, has successfully obtained Belgium's inaugural federal-level L4 autonomous driving test license. This significant accomplishment positions WeRide as the sole technology firm globally whose products boast autonomous driving licenses from seven distinct nations simultaneously. These countries encompass Belgium, China, France, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and the United States.
In line with the license stipulations, the WeRide Robobus is set to carry out public road tests along the route between Leuven and Herent in Belgium. This test loop spans 8 kilometers and features 9 stops. The tests will be carried out in a collaborative effort with De Lijn, the public transportation entity of the Flemish Region, the Leuven government, and the mobility consulting firm Espaces-Mobilités.
Once the relevant authorities grant their approval, the WeRide Robobus will initiate testing in the upcoming weeks. Initially, it will be outfitted with a safety operator. Upon the completion of the tests, the local partner De Lijn will officially roll out the trial operation of this route, which is scheduled to run from mid-November 2025 through the end of January 2026.
