As reported by Reuters, on September 17, Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, made an announcement that it will join forces with the online car-rental platform Lyft to launch self-driving taxi services in Nashville in 2026. In the initial phase, passengers will be able to book rides via the Waymo app. Later on, the service will be extended to the Lyft platform. Waymo will be responsible for supplying the self-driving vehicles. Meanwhile, Lyft will take charge of operations management, billing, and vehicle maintenance, and will also make investments in constructing fleet management facilities. This partnership represents the first commercial application of Waymo's technology through the Lyft platform. Following the announcement, Lyft's pre-market stock price surged by 24%.
