In June 2025, Italo Frigoli, a Tesla owner, found himself in two harrowing situations. While relying on Tesla's Full - Self - Driving (FSD) driver - assistance system, the system completely missed the descending barriers and the oncoming trains at railway crossings. In both cases, Frigoli had to take matters into his own hands and manually slam on the emergency brakes to avert potential disasters.
Frigoli wasn't alone in this ordeal. Six other Tesla owners who were also using the FSD system reported experiencing similar technical malfunctions. What's more, four of these owners went the extra mile and provided video evidence to back up their claims.
The issue wasn't a one - off occurrence. From June 2023 to August 2025, a total of seven dashcam videos surfaced online. These videos vividly depicted similar problems with Tesla's FSD system at railway crossings, painting a concerning picture.
Complaints of this nature are quite prevalent on Tesla user forums. It's a topic that keeps cropping up, indicating a potential widespread issue. In light of these reports, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has stepped into the fray. The agency has already engaged in communication with Tesla regarding this matter. Moving forward, it will meticulously analyze consumer complaints to ascertain whether there's a discernible trend of vehicle safety defects.
