On September 13, 2025, Amazon initiated trials of its delivery fleet utilizing Chevrolet BrightDrop electric vans. This move triggered a decline in Rivian's stock price upon the announcement. In line with its ambitious goal to "have 100,000 electric delivery vans operating on the roads by 2030," Amazon is actively exploring alternative supplier options in addition to Rivian, aiming to achieve a more diversified supply chain.
Back in September 2019, Amazon entered into a deal with Rivian to acquire 100,000 electric vans. However, as of now, Rivian has managed to deliver only 30,000 units. The production is anticipated to experience a substantial upswing by 2026 - 2027.
