On September 11, WeRide, a company specializing in autonomous driving technology, made an exciting announcement: its autonomous Robobus has commenced operations in the Belgian city of Leuven. This milestone marks WeRide's official foray into its 11th global market, solidifying its presence in Europe after successful ventures in France, Spain, and Switzerland. The deployment is the result of a collaborative partnership among WeRide, the Flemish public transport operator DeLijn, the Leuven city government, and the mobility consulting firm Espaces-Mobilités.

Immediately after deployment, WeRide's Robobus began mapping the route from Leuven Station to Herfel. This route cuts through the bustling heart of Leuven, linking several key transportation hubs amidst heavy traffic, thus embodying a quintessential urban traffic environment in Belgium. Public road testing for the project is slated to commence in mid-September, with safety officers stationed on board during the initial phase to ensure smooth operations.
