Grace Tao, Tesla's Vice President, has put to rest concerns regarding battery degradation by sharing real - world cases. In Australia, a Tesla Model 3 equipped with its original battery and motor has covered an impressive 410,000 km. During this extensive journey, the battery has only experienced around 11% degradation. Meanwhile, a Model Y owner in China who has driven 175,000 km over the course of three years reports that their vehicle's battery health stands at a robust 94%.
Previous tests conducted by relevant agencies revealed that for Model 3 and Model Y vehicles that have traveled approximately 320,000 km, the average battery degradation is 20%. These reports also pointed out that battery degradation tends to be faster during the first 100,000 km of driving, after which the rate of decline becomes more gradual. Tesla, on its part, has officially stated that after driving 320,000 km, the average battery degradation is 15%.
In addition, last year, Zeekr took apart a Zeekr 001 that had clocked up 320,000 km. The inspection showed that the battery pack structure remained intact. Moreover, the battery health was at 91%, indicating only a 9% degradation.
