The Russian State Duma has enacted legislation mandating companies like Apple to permit the installation of RuStore, a local third-party app store, on their devices. This measure aims to dismantle the monopoly held by foreign platforms. Effective September 1, 2025, this regulation prohibits the restriction of users' ability to install and update software from third-party sources, blocks the disabling of alternative software's functionality, and prohibits the imposition of specific pricing policies and limitations on in-app payment methods. This step is designed to ensure Russian users' freedom to utilize local app stores and applications, fostering a more diverse and inclusive digital ecosystem.
