The Kunming Municipal Government Office has unveiled the "Kunming City's 2025 Economic Stability and Quality Enhancement Policy Measures," outlining an ambitious vision for the advancement of the low-altitude economy. This involves devising a comprehensive strategy, refining the layout of low-altitude airspace, expediting the establishment of a low-altitude intelligent information network, and bolstering the infrastructure of general airports and take-off/landing sites. Furthermore, the initiative to construct Kunming's Civil Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Test Base aims to nurture industry leaders and facilitate the integration of the low-altitude economy across logistics, production, education, training, cultural tourism, and sports.
Of particular note, Kunming encourages the pioneering use of electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft in scenic areas around Dianchi Lake for specialized projects such as air tours, aerial photography, and aerial sports. With an objective to broaden the scope of low-altitude applications, the city plans to expand to 50 pilot scenarios.
