On October 27, reports emerged indicating that Apple (AAPL.O) had acknowledged the presence of internal screen malfunctions in a limited number of iPhone Duo units. While most devices remain unaffected, the affected ones tend to display issues shortly after use. Earlier, numerous media sources had highlighted that users reported hearing a cracking noise when unfolding their phones, accompanied by a noticeable bulge or looseness around the hinge area, eventually leading to cracks appearing on the internal screen. Additionally, some devices exhibited white spots or unusual bright lines.

The repair platform iFixit conducted an analysis and suggested that the root cause might lie in the failure of internal hinge components, which subsequently exert pressure on and crack the screen. Presently, Apple has initiated an investigation into the matter, with certain engineers acquiring defective devices for in-depth analysis. Some users have already been provided with replacement devices, whereas others are still awaiting theirs due to limited stock at stores or challenges in scheduling service appointments.
