A cybersecurity expert has uncovered that the advertisements displayed on their Samsung TV were remarkably on-point. Upon delving into the system's inner workings, they revealed that the Tizen OS collects user telemetry data, audio snippets, screenshots, and more, with the aim of refining targeted ad delivery. The extensive background processing of user data could potentially explain the system's sluggish response times. Additionally, the system harnesses AI models to scrutinize user viewing patterns. Notably, even in the absence of a built-in microphone on the TV, the system taps into the microphones of other linked devices to capture audio. Tests conducted by another engineer corroborated that Samsung TVs do momentarily activate the microphone for recording purposes. The researcher quipped that they've finally stumbled upon a company that genuinely 'listens' to its user base.
