Based on the most recent report from market research company TrendForce, the global laptop market could encounter a fresh wave of downward pressure by 2027. The report highlights that the costs of key components, including DRAM memory, CPUs, and solid-state drives, are steadily increasing. Consequently, the main risk for the laptop industry is transitioning from supply shortages to how these rising costs will affect consumer demand. Should manufacturers choose to transfer these additional costs to consumers, the resulting hike in retail prices might further extend replacement cycles. This, in turn, could lead to an even more significant drop in global laptop shipments by 2027.
