Recently, the attorneys general offices in Florida, Iowa, Montana, and Nebraska have jointly filed a lawsuit against networking equipment manufacturer TP-Link. They accuse the company of misleading consumers with inflated product safety claims and concealing its corporate ties to China. Prior to this, Texas had already initiated a similar lawsuit in February 2026, alleging that TP-Link engaged in deceptive marketing practices for its networking equipment and permitted Chinese entities to access U.S. consumer devices. In response, TP-Link refuted the allegations, stressing that U.S. user data is securely stored on Amazon cloud servers and that its operations are autonomous, free from any influence by the Chinese government. Earlier, Netgear had also taken legal action against TP-Link for false advertising, asserting that TP-Link misled consumers into thinking it was a U.S.-based company, which led to significant sales losses for Netgear, amounting to tens of millions of dollars.
