The A20 Pro chip introduces a dual 16-core neural engine for the first time. The iPhone 18 Pro equipped with this chip runs models with 27 billion parameters at twice the speed of the iPhone 17 Pro. The iPhone 18 Pro series is equipped with 12GB of LPDDR5X memory with a 96-bit width, which works in tandem with the dual 16-core neural engine to significantly enhance local AI performance, enabling smooth operation of the 1-bit quantized Bonsai 27B model. However, due to memory capacity limitations, this series cannot run the larger 2-bit quantized Bonsai 2 model locally, as memory capacity remains a critical bottleneck for deploying larger models locally.
