On September 17th, the 2026 Omdia China Display Industry Symposium took place in Shanghai, spanning September 16th to 17th. The event zeroed in on the large-format display market, highlighting that while the industry's overall growth trajectory remains constrained, there is a swift pivot towards larger display sizes in the product mix. Concurrently, the dominance of Chinese panel makers has been further cemented, and the build-out of high-generation OLED production capacity has set the stage for a fresh competitive era.

Wu Rongbing, a seasoned principal analyst at Omdia, remarked that in the OLED arena, Korean manufacturers once commanded a near-monopoly with nearly 98% of the market share for high-generation OLEDs. Yet, with the phased rollout of production capacity from BOE's B16, CSOT's T8, and Visionox's V5 lines, it is anticipated that by 2030-2031, Chinese high-generation OLED production capacity will constitute 30% of the total area. This shift will see the coexistence of multiple technology pathways, with the local supply chain capitalizing on burgeoning development prospects.

On the demand front, Omdia's data reveals that global TV panel shipments for the entirety of 2026 are projected to hit around 240 million units. Despite a marginal dip in total volume, there will be notable shifts in the internal size composition. Spurred by escalating costs of components like storage and chips, consumer demand is gravitating towards products sized 55 inches and above. Over the next two to three years, a surge in demand for large-format panels during peak seasons is on the cards.
