At 10:20 a.m. local time on September 15, an RQ-4B 'Global Hawk' high-altitude unmanned reconnaissance aircraft, which is stationed at Misawa Base in Aomori Prefecture and operated by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, embarked on a non-training mission. Around 1:00 p.m. on the same day, communication with the drone was lost while it was flying over the sea area near Tottori Prefecture. After conducting extensive search operations, the Japanese authorities concluded that this high-value drone had likely crashed into the sea and was probably shattered into numerous pieces.
