Microsoft is refining its approach to the hardware AI key strategy. In the most recent Windows 11 test build, a built-in keyboard remapping feature has been introduced, enabling users to reassign the Copilot key to either the right Ctrl key or the context menu key. This key had previously taken the place of the right Ctrl key on certain keyboards, a move that did not sit well with users. The update also includes a 'Do nothing' option; when activated, pressing or holding down the Copilot key will elicit no response. Users can access these settings by navigating to 'Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Keyboard'. Microsoft cautions users that some shortcuts might behave unpredictably after remapping and suggests using the physical right Shift key in combination with other keys. Additionally, it advises against using both system-level key remapping and third-party key configuration tools at the same time.
