On September 14, it was reported that Apple's first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, made some functional trade-offs at launch, lacking support for Face ID facial recognition and a telephoto camera. According to Bloomberg's Apple reporter Mark Gurman, these two features are expected to return in the third-generation model. To reduce the device's thickness to 5.2 millimeters, Apple eliminated Face ID in favor of side-mounted Touch ID fingerprint recognition, while also ditching the standalone telephoto lens, opting instead for only a main camera and an ultra-wide lens. Gurman stated that Apple may reintroduce these features in future products by reducing component sizes and leveraging advancements in AI technology.
