Impacted by the rising prices of IT components and the phenomenon of 'chip inflation', Apple has decided to extend its inventory holding period for display panels. Starting from the second quarter of 2026, this period will be increased from the original four weeks to six weeks. Concurrently, Apple has also ramped up its procurement volume of OLED panels, a move that has significantly boosted the supply volume from Korean display panel manufacturers.
In the second quarter of this year, Apple witnessed a 13% year-on-year increase in smartphone shipments, accompanied by a substantial surge in panel orders. This growth is not only attributable to the robust demand for the iPhone 17 series but also a direct consequence of the extended inventory holding period. Apple's strategic decision aims to stabilize component costs and alleviate some of the cost pressures, given that suppliers are no longer in a position to offer significant price reductions.
Industry observers anticipate that extending the inventory holding period could potentially evolve into a long-term strategy for Apple. Following the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro series, it is expected that the supply volume from Korean panel manufacturers will see a further uptick. Meanwhile, Apple products may undergo price adjustments in response to these market dynamics.
