Based on the latest research from Omdia, the global tablet market encountered a downturn in the second quarter of 2026. Shipments dropped by 10% year-on-year, reaching 36 million units. This marks a departure from the typical seasonal uptick in shipments, which was previously driven by back-to-school demand in the second quarter of prior years. Among the leading players, Apple retained its top position, shipping 13.5 million units and securing a 38% market share. Samsung followed closely behind with nearly 6 million units shipped. Notably, Lenovo emerged as the sole vendor to experience growth, with a 27% year-on-year increase in shipments. Meanwhile, Xiaomi and Huawei shipped 2.8 million and 2.7 million units, respectively, both witnessing slight year-on-year declines. Omdia anticipates that the tablet market will persist in its downward trajectory for the remainder of 2026, influenced by constrained supplies of budget-friendly tablets and hesitant consumer purchasing behavior.
