According to reports from Macrumors, privacy disclosure documents pertaining to iOS 27 beta 5 have revealed that Apple is in the process of developing a photo provenance system, aptly named "Apple Reference Image." This innovative system is specifically designed to ascertain whether an image was originally captured using an iPhone. To utilize this feature, users can simply activate the "Reference" mode within the camera app, which will then embed essential provenance data directly into the image's metadata. When it comes time for verification, the system seamlessly transmits this data to Apple's secure private cloud computing servers for authentication purposes. Subsequently, a verified version of the image is returned to the user. It's important to note that this feature has not yet been officially rolled out to the public.
