On July 29, Counterpoint Research's memory price tracking report revealed that smartphone memory prices rose by over 80% quarter-over-quarter in the second quarter of 2026. This increase has had a structural impact on the Bill of Materials (BOM) costs of smartphones, with flagship models seeing a nearly 50% year-over-year increase in BOM costs. DRAM has surpassed SoC to become the most expensive single component. The introduction of future 2nm flagship SoCs will further drive up costs, and even if OEMs raise retail prices, overall gross margins are expected to remain lower than those of the same-generation flagship products in 2025.
