Apple is in the process of developing a new generation of MacBook Pro models, available in 14-inch and 16-inch variants. These will mark a pioneering achievement by integrating both OLED screens and touch capabilities. The anticipated release window for these innovative devices spans from the end of this year to next year. Samsung Display has secured the exclusive contract to supply these OLED panels. Leveraging its advanced 8.6-generation OLED production line, Samsung Display is poised to fulfill Apple's mass production needs for large-scale glass substrates. Presently, the trial production phase for the pertinent panels is already underway, with expectations for large-scale mass production to commence as early as August this year. Given the existing constraints in technology and production line configuration, LG Display is projected to be excluded from this supply chain until at least after 2029. Similarly, BOE, grappling with challenges related to technological sophistication and yield rates, is not expected to venture into the OLED panel supply chain for the MacBook Air until post-2028.
