According to South Korea’s The Elec, Apple’s upcoming high-end MacBook Pro—potentially dubbed the MacBook Ultra—will feature OLED touchscreens supplied exclusively by Samsung Display. The initial batch of 14-inch and 16-inch panels will be manufactured at Samsung’s 8.6-generation OLED production facility in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. Early supplies are projected to reach around 250,000 units, with full-scale mass production slated to begin in August of this year.

Samsung Display is the sole collaborator in the initial panel R&D phase. Rather than negotiating a separate exclusive supply agreement, the two companies have adopted a model where Samsung Display oversees panel specifications and mass production requirements from the R&D stage onward. These advanced panels incorporate oxide TFT technology, a dual-layer tandem light-emitting structure, and integrated in-panel touch functionality. Key specifications include a thickness of 0.2 millimeters or less, peak brightness exceeding 2000 nits, a variable refresh rate spanning 1 to 120 hertz, and a lifespan of 2000 hours or longer. This year’s estimated supply volume is approximately 1 million units, with projections rising to 2.5 million units in the following year.
