CCTV.com has recently brought to light a new type of scam. A part-time job application, posing as a matchmaking platform, duped users into buying iPhones and mailing them to activate their accounts. On July 22, at around 20:00, a man in Jingjiang, Jiangsu, hurriedly bought five iPhones from a mobile phone store without inquiring about the price, stating that they were for wedding favors. The store manager, Ms. Zhu, was immediately suspicious and alerted the police. Upon police involvement, it was revealed that the man, surnamed Liu, had downloaded an application recommended by an acquaintance. This application, under the guise of matchmaking, was actually a front for part-time job fraud. When Liu found himself unable to withdraw his funds, he was persuaded by customer service to purchase mobile phones and mail them in order to unfreeze his initial investment. Fortunately, Ms. Zhu and the police intervened promptly, preventing the loss of mobile phones valued at over 100,000 yuan. Currently, the police are in the process of applying for a courage award for Ms. Zhu.
