Sony has just rolled out its new compact cinema camera, the FX5. This latest addition sits a notch above the FX3, which made its debut in 2021, and both models will be available for purchase side by side. The FX5 boasts a 16.6-megapixel full-frame sensor, enabling 5K open gate recording and 16-bit RAW video output. It is powered by the BIONZ XR 2 image processor and incorporates AI autofocus technology, as well as an integrated three-axis stabilization system (which, notably, can be officially detached). Drawing operational inspiration from Sony's premium Venice series of cinema cameras, the FX5 is tailored to meet the needs of small to medium-sized film and television production teams, advertising shoots, and other professional applications. Priced at 32,000 yuan for the standalone camera, it is set to officially launch in August 2026.
