On July 22, reports emerged indicating that the costs of semiconductor components—particularly global memory chips—have escalated recently. This cost surge has subsequently triggered price adjustments within the domestic smartphone market. Coinciding with the peak summer shopping season, smartphone stores in Shenzhen have witnessed a significant uptick in customer foot traffic. Upon investigation, it was found that prices for a variety of new and existing smartphone models from mainstream manufacturers have been raised. These increases typically range from 300 to 1,000 yuan, with certain high-end models experiencing price hikes that surpass the 1,000-yuan mark. To mitigate the financial burden on consumers, brand stores are capitalizing on national subsidy initiatives, including trade-in schemes, to lower the overall purchase expenses. Industry analysts attribute this round of price hikes mainly to the escalating costs of components like memory chips, coupled with strategic adjustments by manufacturers in their product lineups. They also predict that the tight supply situation for memory chips is likely to continue.
