Based on the preliminary data presented in the International Data Corporation (IDC)'s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report, the global smartphone shipment volume stood at 277.5 million units in the second quarter of 2026. This figure indicates a 6.7% year-on-year decrease, marking the second consecutive quarter of decline. The memory crisis has triggered a substantial surge in costs and imposed supply limitations, thereby intensifying the polarization between the high-end and low-end segments of the market. Francisco Jeronimo, who serves as the Vice President of Worldwide Client Devices at IDC, pointed out that Samsung and Apple experienced year-on-year growth in their shipment volumes. Consequently, their respective market shares expanded by 3.2 and 3.8 percentage points. In contrast, vendors that depend on low-end models are confronted with heightened pressure.
