According to Omdia's latest research, in the first quarter of 2026, shipments of PCs (excluding tablets) in the US fell by 7.0% year-on-year, reaching 15.8 million units. This marks the most significant year-on-year decrease since the third quarter of 2023. The market downturn can be attributed to several key factors. Firstly, substantial price hikes in PC memory and storage components resulted in supply constraints and elevated costs. Secondly, following the completion of the Windows 11 upgrade cycle, demand was pulled forward, leading to a pronounced short-term slump in commercial market demand. Moreover, the base effect played a role in magnifying the year-on-year decline. In the first quarter of 2025, enterprises proactively stocked up on inventory in anticipation of potential tariffs, driving up shipments. However, in the first quarter of 2026, channel partners only made modest stockpiles in expectation of memory price increases, which further intensified the year-on-year decline.
