The prototypes for Samsung's upcoming generation of foldable smartphones—the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra—have been unveiled. These prototypes highlight the differences in body proportions and camera setups between the two models through side-by-side real-world images. It has been reported that Samsung has revised its naming convention, rebranding the original 'Wide Fold' variant, previously known as the Galaxy Z Fold Wide, to the Galaxy Z Fold8. This particular model boasts a broader 4:3 aspect ratio for its inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen. It comes equipped with dual rear cameras, a 4800mAh battery, and supports 45W fast charging, all while weighing approximately 201 grams.
On the other hand, the model that adheres to the more traditional proportions has been enhanced and rebranded as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. This device retains its tall and slender design, features a substantial 5000mAh battery, and incorporates a triple-camera system that includes a telephoto lens. Samsung's strategic decision aims to clearly define its product lineup, cater to a wide range of user preferences, and solidify its high-end market position in order to effectively compete with Apple's offerings in the foldable smartphone arena.
